Salt extraction is one of the main activities developed along the Alcochete riverbanks, that

is the reason why salt appears

in town coat-of-arms. Samouco salt-pans are situated inside the boundaries of the Tagus Natural Reserve, where bird like storks, pink flamingos and other migrant birds spend the winter.

Restrictive environmental measures put in place, made possible the almost total recover of “Mar da Palha”, in front of Lisbon and for this reason we have now abundance of sensitive species like oysters and clams.

Equestrian activity is also developed in vast estates around Alcochete, not only for sports purposes, but especially to “Lusitano” horse breeding. Alcochete is known as a shopping destination due to Freeport, the biggest open-air brand outlet in Europe.

En Ecological Resort

Solar thermal system made up of a set of solar collectors, tank and boiler for the heating of sanitary waters. During the design phase, construction and maintenance, Praia do Sal applies an Environmental Management System certified according to ISO 14001 by TÜV Rheinland Portugal.

It allows the organization to minimize impacts, prevent pollution and conserve exhaustible natural resources.
