Adolfo Mescuita Nunes, the Secretary of State for Tourism in an interview with Portuguese news agency “LUSA”: “The data until November confirms that 2014 was the best year ever in tourism in Portugal, in various indicators, the number of guests, overnight stays, hotel revenues and earnings in the tourism sector,” and “Income from tourism recorded in 2014 amounted to 26.4 million euros a day, Portuguese news agency Lusa that the “goal is to continue to gain market share against our major competitors, no tourism destination is built in three years”
Mesquita Nunes stressed how these results clearly showed “that there are many people doing many good things for many years, at companies, their employees, the tourism schools and their students, the regions and local governments and their populations, various governments, this one and the one before. However if I had to choose one factor responsible, one protagonist, it would be the private sector.”
